| Additional Comments | The Blue Mound Country Club was established in 1903 when 93 members arranged for a golf club west of the City of Milwaukee. They initially leased Jacob Wellauer’s 70-acre farm for land and constructed a small frame clubhouse in 1905. In 1923, the golf club purchased two adjoining farms, the Swan Farm and the Gilbert Farm. The members hired the architect Kirchoff and Rose to design the new clubhouse, the Oeflein Construction Company as the contractor, and the notable 1920s course designer, Seth Raynor, a colleague of Charles McDonald. The clubhouse and course opened in the summer of 1926. The old Blue Mound course was operated as a free public course to the east and the new 18-hole one became a popular and successful destination for residents of Wauwatosa and Milwaukee. The golf course went bankrupt in 1933 and operated on a lease, incorporating in 1936 with the new name ‘Blue Mound and Country Club.’ The club hosted the PGA Championship in 1933, as well as the 1940 Women’s Western Open and the 1955 Miller High Life Open. The clubhouse and course remained largely unchanged in the post-war period with the addition of a few maintenance outbuildings.
