| Additional Comments | A 'site file' exists for this property. It contains additional information such as correspondence, newspaper clippings, or historical information. It is a public record and may be viewed in person at the Wisconsin Historical Society, Division of Historic Preservation-Public History. The Rietz House, c.1900, is a large two-and-half-story Transitional Queen Anne style home. An irregular plan transitions to a nearly symmetrical Colonial Revival-like facade with a front-gable roof and three prominent gable wall dormers. Wood clapboard siding covers the house and fenestration includes original double-hung windows with wood sills and lintels and some replacement windows with false muntins. Wide, open overhanging eaves are bracketed and support the gable ends of the asphalt-shingled roof. A large porch, raised roughly four feet, wraps around the front of the building and has an arched roof opening and replacement stone supports and railings. Craftsman-like touches like the brackets and low roof slopes bring into question the exact date of construction on the large property. The original owners, the Rietz family, operated a successful distillery in Silver Creek (see AHI Nos. 78784 and 78787). |
