Additional Comments 412 Dahl Street Joseph and Helen Schooley-Ed and Martha Boyce House
This two-story, front-gabled, frame vernacular house was built in 1918 for Joseph Schooley (City
of Rhinelander tax rolls, Rhinelander telephone books). It has a front-gabled, partially-enclosed,
closed-rail front porch. The house shows the influence of the Craftsman style in its exposed
rafters, and four-over-one double-hung sash windows. Joseph Schooley was a founder and
partner in the Schooley Forbes Hardware Store, established circa 1925 and located at 15-21
South Brown Street (which see) from 1926 until at least 1965 (Rhinelander City Directories). By
1927, Ed Boyce had acquired the house; Boyce retained ownership until at least 1965. He was
manager of the Wisconsin Valley Power Company (Rhinelander City Directories).
