Hugh Mackie Gordon (1873-1961) was the architect for this house. His office was in Chicago where he did commercial and residential work, much of which reflected the infuence of the Prairie Style. The house was apparantly built by Samuel Davis Cargill for his sister and her husband. Cargill was a founder of Cargill Inc. which had its beginings in 1865 when his brother William Wallace Cargill left the family home in Janesville to become the proprietor of a grain flat house in Conover, Iowa. |
