| Additional Comments | This Gothic Revival church was constructed in 1892 as First Congregational Church. It is cross-shaped in plan (with the exception of a rear addition) with aluminum siding and an asphalt-shingled gable roof. The front elevation faces north and is asymmetrical in composition with a post-1939 front-gabled entry bay projecting from the east end of the façade. The entry bay contains a pair of double-doors within a classical surround, flanked by small canted arch windows with peaked wood crowns. The primary façade of the main building mass contains a group of three canted arch stained-glass windows with peaked wood crowns and a row of decorative brackets along a ledge below the gable. A square corner tower sits behind the entry bay and contains individual canted arch stained-glass windows with peaked wood crowns in its north and east walls; above this is an open, arcaded belfry (the canted arches of the belfry mirror the shape of the windows below). The tower is capped by a steeply-pitched hipped roof with flared eaves and an iron balustrade around its top. A shorter square tower is located in the opposite (northwest) corner of the building and mirrors the design of the taller tower. A large rear addition was constructed sometime after 1980. |
