Alternate ways to obtain copies of pre-1907 vital records

If you need a copy of a Wisconsin birth, marriage, or death record created before October, 1, 1907, you can: 

• Request a copy from the Wisconsin Vital Records Office using the appropriate mail-in application form or visit the office in person to make a copy. The Wisconsin Vital Records Office can issue uncertified and certified copies of vital records. (Please note that the VitalCheck service is only available for vital records created on or after October 1, 1907.)
• Request a copy from the Register of Deeds office in the Wisconsin county where the vital event took place. Register of Deeds offices can issue uncertified and certified copies of vital records. We recommend contacting the Register of Deeds office to learn about their services and fees.
• Request a copy from the relevant Area Research Center. Area Research Centers can issue uncertified copies of vital records. We recommend contacting the Area Research Center staff to learn about their services and fees. 
• Visit the Wisconsin Historical Society Library reading room and make a print copy from the microfilm.
