Behind them is a rural frame house with gable, and a man in a cart on the far left. Two women and a man are standing near a horse-drawn carriage in the center, in which a man is sitting with a child. On the right side is a boy, and two women, with one woman holding pails and a hat. C.K. Preus was the son of Herman Amberg Preus and was born in Spring Prairie in 1852. He was pastor at Spring Prairie from 1876-1897, and he died in 1921. |

Original negative 77. Census records (1870, 1880), plat maps (1873) and early county histories have Preus and his family in Leeds, Columbia County. The Lutheran congregation there was called the "Spring Prairie" congregation. |
