Men on Chimneys
A unusual scene on an unidentified farmstead probably located near Pleasant Springs, Wisconsin. A family is posed in the yard of a frame house, as is usual in Dahl's photographs. On the right a man sits on a horse-drawn implement and further to the right a boy draws water from a well. However, totally divorced from this placid scene is a confrontation taking place on the roof of the house between two men posed on the chimneys. Although separated by twenty feet or so, they are apparently anxious to have a fist fight. This is a carefully posed photograph of uncertain but probably humorous meaning. |
