Samuel Brown
Quarter-length oval portrait of Samuel Brown. He was born in Massachusetts on January 8, 1804, and came to Wisconsin in November of 1834. In late 1835, Brown and his family were the first to settle in Milwaukee. He was the community's first carpenter, building Milwaukee's first courthouse. He also served as a promoter and director of the Milwaukee and La Crosse Railroad. |
