Congressman O'Konski
Official portrait of Republican Congressman Alvin O'Konski, probably dating from the 83rd Congress. O'Konski represented Wisconsin's 10th Congressional district from 1943 to 1973. He was best known for his interest in Poland and for his ardent anti-Communism, an issue on which he campaigned in Wisconsin well before Joseph R. McCarthy took it up as an issue. In 1957 O'Konski was an unsuccessful candidate for McCarthy's seat. |
