Drawing
Quarters of I.D. Crittenden
Contemporary drawing of the interior of a prison barracks. Quarters of I.D. Cruttenden, Captain and Assistant Quarter Master of the "W.I.V." (Likely signifying the Wisconsin Infantry Volunteers), and other officers. A note on the back adds: "Major C.B. Penrose died at Carlisle, Penn, Sept. 18, 1895. We were captured at the same time together, at Strasburg, Va., May 25, 1862. Close friends until paroled. We parted at Washington in August 1895. C.B. Penrose was appointed Captain and Commissary in the regular Army at the end of the war." The artist is unknown, but is likely one of the men listed in the drawing. |
