Champion Prize Envelope - Lincoln & Davis in 5 Rounds, 3rd Round
Abraham Lincoln and Jefferson Davis in a boxing ring. Text at top reads, "CHAMPION PRIZE ENVELOPE - LINCOLN & DAVIS IN 5 ROUNDS," underneath reads "3RD ROUND." Lincoln holds Davis off of the ground in a headlock. Mortar shells and bombs litter the ground. Cheering Union spectators comment, "GENERAL THAT'S SECESSION'S LAST KICK" and "SEE THOSE BALLS ROLLING." Confederate spectators comment as they flee, trampling the slaves, "LET'S GO HOME BOYS," "DAMN PICKENS! SOUTH CAROLINA AND SUMPTER TOO!" and "WELL COBB, SHALL WE CALL AND SEE PICKENS?" Outside the ring on Lincoln's side are Union troops with cannons, generals, statesmen and the Capitol building with the Union flag. On Davis' side are fleeing generals and statesmen, a tipped over cotton bale, starved dogs, a Confederate flag lying on the ground and trampled slaves. The globe of the Earth with two military figures left on it has drifted to the center saying "EFFECTUAL TOO! I AM OFF, GARIBALDI WANTS ME," and "BLOCKADED." Lincoln is saying "I WILL SOON SMOTHER THOSE PIRATES." Black ink on beige envelope, image covers entire envelope. Image printed on envelope, mounted on various colored pages and collected in an album. |
