The play was commissioned by Frohman after Burke's "Land of Promise" failed early in the year. It fared little better, lasting only 41 performances. Burke, the wife of Florenz Ziegfeld, would of course find fame mostly as a film actress, most notably as the "good witch" Glinda in "The Wizard of Oz." But she did several important films with George Cukor as well ("A Bill of Divorcement" [1932] and "Dinner at Eight" [1933]). |
