Episcopal clergyman, b. Union Point, Ga. He was educated at the Univ. of South Carolina (A.B., 1904) and the Univ. of the South (B.D., 1907). After being ordained a priest in 1908, he served the diocese of South Carolina (1907-1914). He was priest-in-charge at St. Matthew's mission, Fairbanks, Alaska, Tanana Valley Missionary District (1914-1919), and was made an honorary member of the Pioneers of Alaska. From 1920 to 1932 he was rector of Madison's Grace Episcopal Church. In the Milwaukee diocese, he was a member of the standing committee and executive council, honorary canon of cathedral. He was deputy of the general convention of the Episcopal Church in 1928 and 1931. A man of broad interests, he took an active part in Madison fraternal, civic, and university affairs. He received his Ph.D. from the Univ. of Wisconsin in 1927 and acted as an honorary chaplain of that university until his death. A distinguished preacher and church scholar, his spiritual influence was felt throughout the community. Madison Wis. State Journal, Oct. 11, 1932.
