Manel, Francis 1864 - 1928 | Wisconsin Historical Society
Catholic priest, b. Jeziorki, Poland. He migrated to the U.S. in 1887, and entered the Franciscan Order at Pulaski, Wis., in 1889. He studied in Illinois and Missouri, was ordained in the priesthood in 1897, and held pastorates in Hofa Park and Pulaski. Manel was instrumental in founding the Minor Seminary and High School of St. Bonaventure in Sturtevant (1905), and the Franciscan Printery in Pulaski (1907). He was editor of the Polish-language Franciscan Messenger (1907-1925), and from 1914 until his death served as commissary provincial of his Franciscan community at Pulaski. Who's Who in Polish Amer.
