Marshall, Rouget De Lisle 1847 - 1922 | Wisconsin Historical Society

lawyer, judge, b. Nashua, N.H. He moved with his family to Wisconsin in 1854, settling on a farm near Delton. He attended Baraboo Collegiate Institute and Lawrence College, studied law, and was admitted to the bar in 1873. He practiced law in Chippewa Falls (1873-1882), and was a law partner of Congressman John J. Jenkins (1882-1889). A Republican, he was circuit judge of the 11th judicial circuit (1889-1895), and in 1895 was appointed to the state supreme court to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Harlow S. Orton (q.v.), was elected to the unexpired term in 1896, and to a full term in 1897 and 1907, serving on the high court bench from 1895 until 1918. Marshall was president of the state bar association (1917-1918), a member of the board of regents of the Univ. of Wisconsin (1884-1886), and a member of the capitol improvement commission (1903-1905).
