Miner, Henry Austin 1829 - 1932 | Wisconsin Historical Society

Congregational clergyman, b. Halifax, Vt. He graduated from Williams College (1853), and Bangor (Maine) Theological Seminary (1856). In 1857 he moved to Menasha where he held his first pastorate, and later served Congregational pastorates in Columbus and Monroe. In 1873 he was appointed superintendent of home mission work in the southern district of Wisconsin, and served in this capacity until 1883. In 1874 he moved to Madison where he resided until his death. Miner was a trustee of Beloit and Ripon colleges, and in 1876 was elected a trustee of the Wisconsin Female College. In this capacity he was instrumental in its merger with Downer College in 1895. He helped organize the Wisconsin Federation of Reforms (1898), and was for many years editor of the church publication, Our Church Work and The North Western Mail. F. N.
