Minor, Edward Sloman 1840 - 1924 | Wisconsin Historical Society

soldier, businessman, politician, Congressman, b. Peninsula, Jefferson County, N.Y. He moved with his parents to Wisconsin in 1845, settling in Greenfield, Milwaukee County. He later moved to Milwaukee, Sheboygan County, and eventually settled on a farm in Door County. During the Civil War, he served in the 2nd Wisconsin Volunteer Cavalry (1861-1865), and when he left the service held the rank of 1st lieutenant. After the war, he engaged in the hardware business in Sturgeon Bay (1865-1884), and from 1884 to 1891 was superintendent of the Sturgeon Bay and Lake Michigan Ship Canal. A Republican, he was state assemblyman (1878, 1880-1881), and state senator (1883-1886). In 1894 he was elected to Congress, and served six terms (Mar. 1895-Mar. 1907). Minor was twice mayor of Sturgeon Bay, and was its postmaster (1911- 1915). After 1918 he lived in retirement in Sturgeon Bay until his death. (1 Biog. Dir. Amer. Cong. (1928); Wis.
