artist, teacher, b. New Holstein, Calumet County. He moved with his parents to Milwaukee in 1885, and later studied under Richard Lorenz (q.v.) and Alexander Mueller (q.v.) at the Milwaukee Art Students' League. He also studied in New York City and in Munich, Germany. In 1914 he became an art instructor at the Milwaukee School of Art, an institution headed by Alexander Mueller, and affiliated with the Milwaukee Normal School. He continued in this capacity until 1923 when he replaced Mueller as director of the art department, and in 1927, when the normal school was made the Milwaukee State Teachers College, Moeller was named director of art education. He taught at Milwaukee State Teachers until his death, and was widely known as one of the leading art educators in the state. As a painter, Moeller was primarily known for his landscapes, although in his later years some of his work showed a trend toward expressionism. P. Butts, Art in Wis.
