Munson, Oliver Goldsmith 1856 - 1933 | Wisconsin Historical Society

newspaperman, politician, b. New Oregon (now Cresco), Iowa. He began his newspaper career in Iowa. In 1876 he moved to Wisconsin, settling in Richland Center where he was co-editor (1876-1885) of the Richland County Republican (styled Richland County Republican and Observer after 1881). In 1885 he moved to Viroqua, and from 1885 to 1920 was editor of the Vernon County Censor. A Republican, he was state senator (1897-1908) and chief clerk of the senate (1915-1923, 1927-1931). He was for several years private secretary to Governor James O. Davidson (q.v.), and was a stockholder in the First National Bank of Viroqua and the State Bank of Prairie du Chien.
