agriculturist, professor, politician, Congressman, b. Ogdenbury. He graduated from the Univ. of Wisconsin (B.S. in Ag., 1916) and was agricultural agent for the Northern Pacific R.R. and the Great Northern R.R. in St. Paul, Minn. (1914-1917). Returning to Wisconsin in 1917, he served as agricultural agent for Winnebago County (1917-1919), and from 1918 to 1919 also served as district leader of county agricultural agents with headquarters in Madison. Murray was agricultural agent for the First National Bank of Oshkosh (1919-1922), and from 1922 to 1927 was professor of animal husbandry at the Univ. of Wisconsin College of Agriculture. He was also owner and manager of the Waupaca Cattle Credit Co. (1927-1939) and for a number of years was a prominent farmer and cattle dealer in Waupaca County. A Republican, Murray was elected to Congress from the 7th Congressional district in 1938, was six times re-elected, and served from Jan., 1939, until his death. Who's Who in Amer., 26 (1950); Biog.
