From Increase Lapham's 1844 Geographical and Topographical Description of Wisconsin:
"The towns of Navarino and Astor, on the east side of the Neenah [Fox River] at its mouth, constitute the north and south wards of the town or village of Green Bay. The former is the original and ancient town, Astor having been laid out in 1836, an addition or extension of Navarino."
