Nelson, George Bliss 1876 - 1943
lawyer, judge, b. Amherst, Portage County. He graduated from the Univ. of Wisconsin (B.A., 1898) and George Washington Univ. (LL.B., 1902). From 1902 to 1930 he practiced law in Stevens Point, served one term as city attorney of Stevens Point, and was district attorney for Portage County (1906-1913). He was a regent of the state normal schools (1910-1920). In 1930 Nelson was appointed to the state supreme court, was elected for a full term in 1935, but in 1940 was forced to withdraw from his duties because of ill health and resigned in 1942. Wis.
