lawyer, businessman, historian, b. Pottsville, Pa. He moved with his parents to Milwaukee in 1856, studied law, and was admitted to the bar in 1874. A Democrat, Neville subsequently moved to Green Bay, where he served as mayor (1888-1890), and soon discontinued the active practice of law. He amassed a considerable amount of wealth through business investments and as director of several manufacturing concerns in Wisconsin, and after 1899 devoted his attention primarily to his interest in local history. He was instrumental in organizing the Green Bay Historical Society (1899), and was its president (1902- 4929). Neville was also curator of the State Historical Society of Wisconsin, and wrote numerous articles on the history of the Green Bay area. The Neville Public Museum, opened in Green Bay in 1927, was made possible partly through the philanthropy and interest of Neville, and was named in his honor. Wis. Mag. Hist., 13; M. M. Quaife, Wis.
