Ogema, in Chippewa, is Ogima, a chief.Ogema, townFrom Ogima, "a chief"O-gi-ma, "a chief"O-gih-maw, " chief"Kitchiogima, "a great chief"Surveyed and platted in April, 1878. Suggested that the town be called Holmes, but the owner of that name stenously objected. To meet the trouble an old Indian chied named Ogema happened to visit the settlement, when his name was submitted to the company and accepted.
