Okee, in Chippewa, is Aki, "land or ground. "Evil Spirit. Earth or place. Named in June 1763 by the Indians accompanying Joliet and Marquette. Achek, good fishing ground. Achek changed to Okee by Dr. Blatchley about 1852.
