newspaperman, politician, Congressman, b. Adams, Minn. He moved to Wisconsin in 1910, settling in Washburn, Bayfield County, where he engaged in the real estate business, later operated a fur farm, and held local political offices. A Republican, he was state assemblyman (1913-1914). During World War I, Peavey was a captain in the Wisconsin National Guard (1917-1919), and served 17 months with the 32nd Division in France. Returning to Washburn after the war, he was the owner and editor of the Washburn News (1919-1924) and also served briefly as editor of the Ashland journal, (1922-1923). In 1922 Peavey was elected to Congress from the 11th district, served in this capacity from 1923 to 1933, and, after Wisconsin was redistricted in 1932, represented the 10th district until defeated for re-election by Progressive candidate Bernard J.
