Perry, Melvin Withington 1864 - 1951 | Wisconsin Historical Society
businessman, politician, b. Racine. He moved to Algoma as a child, and worked there as a carpenter and millwright (1879-1886). From 1886 to 1892 he was employed in a Sheboygan veneer factory, and in 1892 returned to Algoma where he helped organize the Ahnapee Veneer and Seating Co. (later renamed the Algoma Panel Co., and eventually the Algoma Plywood and Veneer Co.). Perry was general manager of this company (1892-1922), and president from 1922 until the firm was acquired by the U.S. Plywood Co. in 1939. He was one of the founders (1911) and president (1911-1920) of the Citizen's Bank of Algoma; he helped organize the Algoma Net Co. (1914) and the Algoma Foundry and Machine Co.
