lawyer, politician, Congressman, b. Empire, Fond du Lac County. He graduated from Oshkosh State Normal School (1889) and the Univ. of Wisconsin (B.A., 1894; LL.B., 1895). He was admitted to the bar in 1895, and from 1896 to 1899 practiced law in Oshkosh. After 1899 he practiced law in Fond du Lac, where he held local political offices, including those of district attorney and city attorney. A Democrat, Reilly was elected to Congress in 1912, and served two terms (Mar. 1913-Mar. 1917). Defeated for re-election in 1916, he resumed his law practice in Fond du Lac. In 1930 he was again elected to Congress to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Florian Lampert (q.v.), was subsequently re- elected until his defeat in 1938, and served from Nov., 1930, to Jan., 1939.
