Ripon [origin of place name]
The post office and the first ward of Ripon was called Ceresco, a name given it by the Wisconsin Phalanx, an association that had settled in the valley below, the year before David P. Mapes came to the site of Ripon. Mapes allowed Governor Horner to name the new city Ripon after Ripon, England, the home of the Governor's ancestors.
