pharmacist, politician, Congressman, b. Mayville, Dodge County. He graduated from the Chicago College of Pharmacy (1885), worked as a druggist in Chicago for three years, and in 1888 returned to Mayville, where he operated a drug business for many years. A Republican, Sauerhering was active in local politics, and in 1894 was elected to Congress. He was re-elected in 1896, and served two terms (Mar. 1895-Mar. 1899). He was not a candidate for re-election in 1898, returned to his drug business in Mayville, where he made his home until his death. He also served as Mayville superintendent of public works (1909-1918), and justice of the peace (1912-1920). Biog. Dir. Amer. Cong. (1928); A. M. Thomson, Political Hist, of Wis.
