Schwebach, James 1847 - 1921 | Wisconsin Historical Society
Catholic priest, bishop, b. Platen, Duchy of Luxembourg. He migrated to the U.S. in 1864, was educated at St. Francis Seminary near Milwaukee, and in 1870 was ordained in the Catholic priesthood. From 1870 to 1891 he served various pastorates in the La Crosse diocese, and from 1891 until his death was Bishop of the diocese of La Crosse. B. F. Bryant, ed., Memoirs of La Crosse Co.
