labor leader, politician, b. Lockport, N.Y. A cigar maker by trade, he moved to Milwaukee in 1890, where he soon became active in socialist politics. He was elected to the county board of supervisors in 1904, and, with the exception of two terms (1906-1908, 1912-1914), was re-elected until his death. An active trade-union organizer, Sheehan was president of the Cigar Makers Union, Local 25 (1918-1936), was an organizer for the Federated Trades Council of Milwaukee (1923-1925), and also served on the executive board of the Wisconsin State Federation of Labor. Sheehan was instrumental in organizing the Farmer-Labor-Progressive Federation, and was a member of the board of directors of the Socialist newspaper, Milwaukee Leader.
