Shiocton [origin of place name]
Shiocton and the Shioc River are named after a band of Menomimee Shioc Indians that lived in the area at the time of the original land survey in 1843. Corruption of Ojibwe word "ajeatan", meaning "it floats upstream - by force of wind".
