lawyer, judge, b. Sumter, Sauk County. He graduated from the Univ. of Wisconsin (B.S., 1878; LL.B., 1880). He was admitted to the bar in 1879, set up a law practice in Madison, and for a number of years practiced in partnership with his brother-in-law, Robert M. La Follette, Sr. (q.v.). Siebecker was city attorney for Madison (1886-1890), and in Jan., 1890, was appointed circuit judge of the 9th judicial circuit. He was elected for the unexpired and ensuing full term in Apr., 1890, was twice re-elected, and served on the circuit bench until elected to the state supreme court in Apr., 1903, for the term to begin in Jan., 1904. On Apr. 9, 1903, he was appointed to the state high court bench to fill the vacancy caused by the death of justice C. V. Bardeen (q.v.), and served on the state supreme court bench from that date until his death. After July 13, 1920, Siebecker was chief justice ex officio by reason of seniority. Who Was Who in Amer.
