(Rep.) born Kewaunee, Oct. 19, 1899. Educated Kewaunee grade and high schools and attended business schools in Milwaukee. For 32 years manager of music departments in Milwaukee stores; from 1949 to 1957 secretary and assistant to the State Treasurer. Member of State, National and International Federation of Business and Professional Women's Clubs. Active in the Republican Party and interested in politics and government; served 3 terms as vice chairman of the 4th Congressional District Republican executive committee; acted as presidential elector in 1960. Appointed State Treasurer Dec. 5, 1957 to fill the vacancy caused by the death of her husband, Warren R. Smith. Elected State Treasurer in 1960, the first woman elected in Wisconsin to a state-wide constitutional office; re-elected 1962, 1964 and 1966. Member Commissioners of Public Lands, State Board of Canvassers, Board of Trustees of Conservation Wardens Pension Fund. Deceased Feb. 20, 1968. Home address was: 1628 W. Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee.
