(Rep.) was born in Ellsworth on July 6, 1918. He received his elementary and high school education in Hudson; attended River Falls State College 1936-37, and St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota, where he received his B.A. degree in 1940. He then attended the University of Wisconsin, where he received an M.A. degree in 1941 and an LL.B. degree in 1947. He has been a practicing attorney since 1947. A World War II veteran, he served in the Army 1942-45. Mr. Thompson served as a La Crosse police and fire commissioner 1952-54, and was elected La Crosse County District Attorney 1954-60.
