He migrated with his parents to the U.S. and to Wisconsin in 1884, settling in Milwaukee, where for several years he worked in local law and insurance offices. He graduated from the Univ. of Wisconsin (LL.B., 1899), was admitted to the bar, and set up a law practice in Sheboygan. A Republican, Voigt held local political offices, including that of district attorney of Sheboygan County and city attorney of Sheboygan. In 1916 he was elected to Congress, was four times re-elected, and served from Mar., 1917, to Mar., 1927. He was not a candidate for re-election in 1926, but in Apr., 1928, was elected circuit judge of Wisconsin's fourth circuit, and served from Jan., 1929, until his death. Biog. Dir. Amer. Cong.
