lawyer, Congressman, b. Catskill, N.Y. He moved to Wisconsin with his parents in 1850, settling on a farm near Fond du Lac. He studied law, was admitted to the bar, and set up a practice in Fond du Lac (1870). A Democrat, he was collector of internal revenue for the 3rd district of Wisconsin (1885-1887). In 1892 he was elected to Congress and served one term (1893-1895). He was a delegate to the Democratic national conventions of 1888 and 1896. After leaving Congress, he returned to his law practice in Fond du Lac, and in 1901 retired from active business life. Fond du Lac Commonwealth-Reporter, Jan. 30, 1935; Biog. Dir. Amer. Cong.
