Gustav Windesheim was a physician born in the Alsace-Lorraine region of France.

Early Life

He migrated to the US in 1873 and graduated from Northwestern University with a Medical Docterate in 1891. Windesheim set up a medical practice in Kenosha in 1892, where he practiced until his retirement in 1938.

Achievements

He was chairman of the Kenosha board of health from 1912 to 1918 and Kenosha health commissioner from 1919 to 1938. He served as a member and president of the Wisconsin state board of health from 1916 to 1937 and 1928 to 1934, respectively. Windesheim was also president of the Wisconsin Anti-Tuberculosis Association from 1912 to 1913. In 1907, Windesheim was instrumental in organizing the Kenosha Anti- Tuberculosis Society and he served as its president for many years. After retiring from active practice in 1938, he continued to make his home in Kenosha until his death.
