An 1893 world's fair in Chicago, held to commemorate Columbus's first expedition. With a mission to "celebrate American progress through time and space since 1492," the fair was built at the cost of $35 million, and attracted nearly 28 million visitors in six months. Exhibitors showed American success in the following categories: Manufactures and Liberal Arts, Machinery, Agriculture, Mining, Electricity, Transportation, Horticulture, Fisheries, Fine Arts, and "Woman's" industries.
