For Immediate Release Keri O'Keefe Wisconsin Historical Society 608-261-9597 keri.okeefe@wisconsinhistory.org Pick up Your Axe and Mine for Gems at the Tommyknockers at Pendarvis Event Mineral Point, Wis. – On Saturday, April 7, Pendarvis Historic Site will host, “Tommyknockers at Pendarvis” in conjunction with the Arts on the Point Gallery Weekend in Mineral Point. “We are pleased to present this new children’s program as part of the expanded Arts on the Point Gallery Weekend,” said Susan Caya-Slusser, site director of Pendarvis Historic Site. “We enjoy taking part in wider community events and think visitors will enjoy the wide array of programs and activities taking place over three days in Mineral Point.” When: Saturday, April 7, 1-4PM. Part of the Arts on the Point Gallery Weekend in Mineral Point (April 6-8). What: Fun, hands-on activities about the legend of the Tommyknocker and mining history in Wisconsin. Who: All ages are welcome to participate. Where: Pendarvis Historic Site Education Center, 212 Spruce Street, Mineral Point “Tommyknockers at Pendarvis” will focus on the folklore behind the Tommyknocker, a Cornish mining superstition, by blending together the story of how Tommyknockers got here with Cornish mining history in Wisconsin. The event will be filled with fun, hands-on activities for all ages. Visitors will have the opportunity to mine for gems and explore an authentic 1840s mining cabin, set up the way early miners in Wisconsin would have lived. About Pendarvis Pendarvis is one of twelve Wisconsin Historical Society Museums and Historic Sites. Pendarvis is a historic site located in Mineral Point, Wisconsin. The site, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is made up of several 19th century cabins built by Cornish immigrants who came to Mineral Point to mine lead. Today, the site celebrates the restoration and preservation efforts of Robert Neal and Edgar Hellum, who saved a significant part of Wisconsin’s past.
