Revel in Wisconsin Fall Traditions at Wade House

Greenbush, Wis. – This October, explore 19th-century traditions at the Wade House Autumn Celebration!

“Wisconsin has a lot of unique traditions to explore, especially around the end of the harvest season,” says Jim Willaert, curator at Wade House.  “The Autumn Celebration is a way for guests to learn about these first-hand as they participate in fun activities throughout the weekend.”

On Saturday, October 13, from 10 AM – 4 PM, and Sunday, October 14, from 11 AM – 4 PM, guests can come to the Wade House for old-fashioned fun entwined with history. The day will begin in the Wade House’s front lawn, where visitors will get to carve a North American jack-o-lantern (using pumpkins) or a traditional Irish jack-o-lantern using turnips.

Guests will also get the chance to dip their own candles, experience the dyeing of sheep wool using dye made from the Wade House’s own flower garden, play snap apple in the blacksmith shop, and enjoy a nice cup of warm apple cider in the hotel’s 19th-century kitchen.

Autumn Celebration activities are included in the cost of general admission to Wade House: $12 for adults; $10 for seniors (65+) and students with an ID; $6 for children (5-17); free for children under 5; $33 for a family pass (2 adults and 2 or more dependent children); and free for all Wisconsin Historical Society members.  Horse-drawn transportation on the site is included in ticket cost.  For more information visit wadehouse.org.

The Autumn Celebration is part of the Flavor of Wisconsin, a celebration of flavors that connects us to our diverse heritage in the most delicious way.  With exhibitions, demonstrations, tours andtastes around the state, the Flavor of Wisconsin brings to life the history and living traditions that make us who we are.

About Wade House
Wade House, an 1850s stagecoach inn built to serve traffic along the plank road that connected Fond du Lac and Sheboygan, tells the story of frontier entrepreneurs Sylvanus and Betsey Wade and their family who built a community out of the wilderness in the mid-19th Century. In addition to the inn, the historic site includes the reconstructed Herrling sawmill, one of the few working, water-powered sawmills of its kind in the nation, and a working blacksmith shop. The Visitor Center is also home to a gift shop selling many one-of-a-kind items and the Wesley Jung Carriage Museum, which houses the state's largest collection of antique carriages and working wagons.
