South Main Street Residential Historic District Placed on the State Register of Historic Places

Lake Mills, Wis. - The Wisconsin Historical Society placed the South Main Street Residential Historic District (Lake Mills, Jefferson County) on the State Register of Historic Places on November 30, 2018.

The South Main Street Residential Historic District is representative of the development of residential architecture in the city of Lake Mills from its founding through the 1920s.  The most popular architectural styles from the period in Wisconsin are represented, including Greek Revival, Italianate, Queen Anne, and Neoclassical Revival styles, and feature quality materials and workmanship.  This cohesive collection of homes is a distinctive presence in the community and the neighborhood continues to be a popular and sought-after place to live.

The State Register is Wisconsin's official list of state properties determined to be significant to Wisconsin's heritage. The State Historic Preservation Office at the Wisconsin Historical Society administers both the State Register and National Register in Wisconsin.
