Cassville, Wis. – Experience hands-on programs, events, and activities at Stonefield Historic Site this summer.  Stonefield is kicking off the start to the season with Agriculture Appreciation Day on June 1.

“We have so many fun activities on opening day which is also Agriculture Appreciation Day,” said Susan Caya-Slusser, site director for the Southwest Historic Sites for the Wisconsin Historical Society. “It’s a perfect way for families to celebrate the start of summer and all of the things that make Wisconsin an agriculture state.”

During opening day there will be wagon rides, ice cream socials, farm animals, a petting area, an antique tractor show and lots of demonstrations by Organic Valley, Grant County Dairy, Shullsburg Cheese and many more. Guests can also take tours of the Dewey House and the Agriculture Museum. Starting at 11:00 am Jerry Apps and Susan Apps-Bodilly will be signing books and Jerry Apps will give a book talk on his book, “The Civilian Conservation Corps in Wisconsin,” at 1:30 pm in the Agriculture Museum.

Throughout the 2019 season, guests can explore Stonefield from the 1800s machinery to a re-created rural village, experience the kind of agriculture community that cultivated Wisconsin’s growth.

On September 21, the site will once again hold the Great River Road Festival by celebrating the Great River Road with a tractor pull, wagon rides, sorghum making, broom-making and much more.

Don’t forget to add Safe & Spooky to your calendar on October 19 when children can trick-or-treat throughout the “haunted” Stonefield Village.
