Green Bay, WI. - The Wisconsin Historical Society announces the listing of the Herman and Lilian Greiling House in the Village of Allouez, Brown County, on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Herman and Lillian Greiling House is an excellent example of the Mediterranean Revival style, designed by prominent Green Bay architects Foeller & Schober. Constructed in 1920, this home exhibits character defining features of the style including a prominent entry porch possessing two and one-half story brick columns, stone accents and banding, wood double-hung windows, a clay tile roof, roof brackets, and interior wood details. Such features have been maintained and preserved during the years since the home’s construction. The Herman and Lillian Greiling House is one of Allouez’s most architecturally intact and significant residential buildings.

Herman Greiling was a prominent Green Bay, Wisconsin businessman, entrepreneur, engineer, and civic leader during the early twentieth century. He established the Marine Construction Company in 1896 with his brother Charles, specializing in marine architecture such as bridges, retaining walls, ship machinery, and docks all over the Midwest. The brothers operated the company for over forty years.

The National Register is the official list of historic properties in America deemed worthy of preservation and is maintained by the National Park Service in the U.S. Department of the Interior. The Wisconsin Historical Society administers the program within Wisconsin. It includes sites, buildings, structures, objects and districts that are significant in national, state or local history, architecture, archaeology, engineering or culture.
