Green Bay WI. - The Wisconsin Historical Society announces the listing of Mason Manor at 1424 Admiral Court in Green Bay, Brown County, on the State Register of Historic Places.

The Mason Manor apartment building is significant for its contribution to Green Bay’s social history, particularly the community’s approach to providing adequate and affordable housing for its elderly and impoverished citizens. Mason Manor relates to the formation of the current Green Bay Housing Authority in 1968, which was created to address the housing needs of low-income senior citizens at a time when affordable housing throughout the city was being razed to make way for urban renewal and private developments.

The eight-story high-rise building was constructed in 1972. Mason Manor’s completion marked an important milestone in Green Bay’s ongoing public housing efforts and was the first of this scale for the city. 

The State Register is Wisconsin's official list of state properties determined to be significant to Wisconsin's heritage. The State Historic Preservation Office at the Wisconsin Historical Society administers both the State Register and National Register in Wisconsin.
