Green Bay, Brown County, Wisconsin – The Wisconsin Historical Society announces the listing of Mason Manor in the National Register of Historic Places on January 23, 2023. The Mason Manor apartment building is located at 1424 Admiral Court in Green Bay.

Built in 1972 in a contemporary brutalist style, Mason Manor is eligible for the National Register of Historic Places for its contribution to Green Bay in providing adequate and affordable housing for its elderly and low-income citizens. Mason Manor was the product of concurrent forces including highway construction, suburban sprawl, urban renewal, declining availability of affordable housing and economics.

The federal Housing and Urban Development Act of 1965 created new opportunities for housing low-income senior citizens. The current Green Bay Housing Authority was created in 1968, a time when affordable housing was razed to make way for urban renewal and private developments. When Mason Manor opened in 1972, it was the most conspicuous example of new low-cost housing, and the apartment building continues to be managed by the Green Bay Housing Authority to this day.
