Milwaukee, Wisconsin - The Wisconsin Historical Society announces the listing of the North Milwaukee High School in the National Register of Historic Places on April 20, 2023.

The North Milwaukee High School was constructed in two phases between 1924 and 1929, with both designs by the well-known architectural firm of Van Ryn and De Gelleke. It is significant for its display of the Collegiate Gothic style: brick wall cladding, paired double-hung windows, low parapet, belt course, defined entrances, stone lintels, decorative tracery, terrazzo floors, and stained wood elements.

It was the first purpose-built high school constructed in the city of North Milwaukee before it was annexed by the city of Milwaukee in 1929. It retains character-defining features of the Progressive Era High School, including spaces that focus on secondary education such as physical education, vocational training, music, and the arts. It remains the largest and most prominent building within the former city limits, constructed during the height of pre-annexation growth.
