Suburbs in Wisconsin

The late-19th century expansion of cities, growth of electric rail lines, and expanding automobile ownership permitted people who worked in cities to live outside them. Though the first suburbs (1890-1920) were aimed at affluent families, later developments were tailored to the needs of working-class citizens.
